Devon House’s back gate needs a guard house
Dear Editor,
I wish to express my disgust at the full attention given to restoring the most beautiful Great House in Jamaica, Devon House, while at the same time ignoring the welfare of its security personnel.
I live behind Devon House and each day I look through my apartment window just to see what’s happening at Devon House. To my surprise, all these years I have noticed that there is no shelter or guard house at its back gate (exit). The security guard who mans the gate is exposed to the scorching sun and rain all day.
With all the millions of dollars to renovate the Great House, was it not important to stop and think about building a shelter for the security personnel at the back gate?
They are the ones who keep the property and clients safe, but at the same time they should have the right to be treated as humans and not forgotten like animals wandering in a pasture.
