Maintaining decorum in the workplace is a fundamental expectation, particularly for officers in positions of authority. However, a recent incident in the United States has raised concerns. Officers within an intelligence department were found to be engaging in inappropriate conversations and sharing explicit content via an internal chat platform.
The misconduct came to light following the appointment of a new female chief, Tulsi Gabbard. Upon discovering the activity, she immediately convened a meeting and took decisive action, dismissing 100 officers involved.

In an interview with Fox News, US National Intelligence Agency Director Tulsi Gabbard stated that over 100 officers were under investigation for engaging in inappropriate communication.
“These individuals have breached trust and violated organisational regulations. I have issued a directive for their immediate dismissal and the revocation of their privileges. The intelligence department’s systems are intended for professional purposes, not personal misconduct," Gabbard said.
The inappropriate chat activity was initially brought to light by City Journal journalist Christopher Rufo, sparking widespread outrage. Upon assuming her role as Director of the National Intelligence Agency, Tulsi Gabbard prioritised addressing the issue.
Director of National Intelligence spokesperson Alexa Henning confirmed on X that all intelligence agencies were instructed to identify and dismiss the officers involved by Friday, stripping them of their security clearances and privileges.
“We have mandated that all intelligence agencies adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards employees transmitting obscene, pornographic, or inappropriate messages," she said.
CNN has reported widespread concern within the Intelligence Department following Gabbard’s decisive action, with individuals attempting to contact her in an effort to retain their positions.
Gabbard affirmed her commitment to addressing the misconduct, stating, “I have reviewed the messages and posts, which depict officers engaging in inappropriate behaviour. We will conduct a thorough investigation. Such conduct is unacceptable. This platform is accessed by countless individuals, and we will not tolerate such behaviour."
